w-Art is the new name for Nakhla vzw!

Through numerous socio-cultural activities and projects, w-Art vzw brings people and cultures closer together. The ultimate goal is a more positive image of interculturality and diversity.

w-Art has several objectives for this:

To pay permanent attention to the original target group of Maghrebian women by, among other things, mapping needs around social and societal themes.
Stimulating cultural experience and participation among Maghrebs and sensitizing this target group about social issues.
Motivating all citizens to social and cultural participation in an intercultural society.
To promote the cultural heritage of the Maghreb community to other communities and vice versa.
To provide a forum for young talents within the Maghreb community in Belgium.
Promoting solidarity and cooperation between Morocco and Flanders/Belgium.
Setting up projects in Tangier to get vulnerable women and young people out of their isolation and thus increase their chances on the labor market.

Our story

The non-profit organization was founded in 1991 by Zohra Boucharafat to involve Maghrebian women more in the Ghent socio-cultural landscape. In the meantime, the emphasis shifted to increasing the participation of all citizens in the intercultural society.
